Steve Jobs and Apple…Changing Roles…

Photo by Thor Swift for the New York Times....

“I have always said that if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s C.E.O., I would be the first to let you know.” Steve Jobs co-founder and legendary leader of the Apple corporation, announced on Wednesday August 24, 2011 that he is stepping down, as chief executive, of the company that introduced to our world the iMac, iPod, iPhone and iPad innovations, creating thus a global tribe of loyal fans to his design meets intelligence philosophy. It is hard to imagine Apple without Steve Jobs, because in this company that has changed our perspective of what role technology can really play in our lives, he is the soul. Apple breathed through him and the work of his very integrated team of charismatic personalities that were assembled from the fields of design, technology and marketing. In 20 years, that have seen success but also turbulent times, Steve Jobs’ vision rocked the world of culture, design and technology by actually forming a bond between the Apple users and their i-products. Hasn’t it always felt like iPod, iMac and iPhone are our friends and not just the super smart tools that help us accomplish our work? At least, I have always felt so…It always felt like my Apple gadgets are my unusual little friends with a personality that carries part of my own characteristics and a great deal of their own. Which is probably the very own personality of Steve Jobs. So… what happens now? Where do you go from there?

In his resignation letter, he wrote that he will continue his relationship with the company but on a different role. He is to become Chairman, a position that had not existed before, as Tim Cook will succeed him as chief executive of the company.

More details and opinions on the past and future of this story can be found on some very interesting articles on New York Times…com.

"Giulietta e Romeo" design by Riccardo Schweizer

Between Art and Functionality…poetry and necessity…emotion and reason…design and practicality…The eternal debate between opposing forces which forms an ongoing dialogue that actually moves beyond art and design in today’s contemporary society, is the main theme of the upcoming exhibition “Tra Arte e Funzionalità” in the Galleria Carla Sozzani in Milan…Candlesticks and cutlery, coffee sets and lamps designed by Riccardo Schweizer, Soren Georg Jensen, Verner Panton, Todd Bracher and more, create an installation which focuses our attention in a moment of our lives where a lot of meanings could make it a lot more complex than we know… And then again… maybe not.
